Work Rounds

Overview | Video | Key Takeaways
Overview

On a daily basis—and sometimes even more frequently—a physician team will “round” on the patients in their care, meaning they literally go around the hospital to check on the condition of the patients and to update plans for further diagnostic testing and treatment. Work rounds, as they are commonly called, are typically conducted by a team consisting of a senior resident, one or more junior residents, and often one or more medical students.

This video is a simulation of typical work rounds within a U.S. hospital setting, using actual residents, students, and faculty. After the scenario ends, the team members involved address some specific questions about interactions demonstrated in the video and about work rounds in general.
