ERAS 2019 Information for International Medical Students and Graduates

Are you or someone you know planning to apply for U.S. residency positions that begin in July 2019? This issue is full of important reminders and tips for the Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS) 2019 season. Most U.S. residency programs participate in ERAS. If you apply to participating programs, you must use ERAS to do so.

Visit the ERAS Support Services section of the ECFMG website for information on timelines, fees, and more. View additional resources to guide you through the residency application process, including tips on preparing your personal statement and requesting letters of recommendation.

ERAS 2019 Residency Tokens Available

Residency Tokens for the ERAS 2019 season are available for IMGs through ECFMG’s Online Applicant Status and Information System (OASIS) and the MyECFMG mobile app. You can use a 2019 Token to register at the MyERAS website of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and start working on your residency application.

MyECFMG Mobile App

The MyECFMG mobile app offers more features for ERAS applicants than just purchasing an ERAS Token. Eligible*, registered ERAS residency applicants can use the MyECFMG mobile app and their smartphone’s camera to scan and upload the following supporting documents:

  • Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)*
  • Medical school transcript*
  • Photograph
  • Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter (PTAL)

Download our mobile app

*Please note: If you are a student or graduate of a medical school that participates in ECFMG’s EMSWP ERAS program, you are not eligible to upload MSPEs or medical school transcripts through the mobile app. Contact the Dean’s Office at your medical school to request that your school upload the documents on your behalf.

If you already have the document saved in a cloud-based personal storage location (such as OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud, etc.), you can access the file there and upload it through the app. You can also receive convenient push notifications if you have not uploaded a required document.

MyECFMG is available for free from the App Store (iOS devices) and Google Play (Android devices).

Available on the Apple Store Android App on Google play

Applicants to Emergency Medicine Programs

Applying to an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine program in ERAS 2019? The AAMC’s Standardized Video Interview (SVI) is a required part of the application process. The SVI does not replace in-person interviews. It is designed to provide program directors with objective, standardized information about applicants based on two ACGME competencies – Professionalism and Interpersonal and Communications Skills.

The deadline to complete the video interview is July 15, 2018. For complete information and helpful resources, check out the AAMC Standardized Video Interview web page. You can also view the latest AAMC SVI webinars on the AAMC website.
